Pants Parts and Terms
- Waterproof Membrane: A material that prevents water from entering the pants, while allowing moisture to escape. Examples are Gore-Tex and eVent.
- Breathability: The ability of the pants to let moisture out, which prevents the accumulation of moisture due to perspiration.
- Insulation: Material that keeps heat inside the pants. Examples are synthetic insulation and down.
- Seam taping: The process of sealing trouser seams to improve waterproofing.
- Vents: Parts of the pants, such as thigh zippers, that can be opened to improve ventilation and cool the body.
- Snow band: A piece of fabric sewn into the legs of the trousers, which prevents snow from getting inside the trousers.
